Real Life Colour
Pull up a pew at the table of this creative abode
Daniel and wife Laura are the ultimate creative couple: he is an award-winning wallpaper and textile designer, while she is a colour and materials consultant. Together, their love of inspiring interiors and decor expertise has driven them to create a bright but balanced space for their family of three, with a little help from Dulux paint.
Artistic Vision
By using standout pieces of upcycled furniture – handcrafted by Daniel himself, no less – against a background of airy Sicilian Summer 6, the couple has shaped a creative and refreshing living space. Luscious green potted plants add a natural touch that pairs well with Daniel’s sustainable creations.
Working with the layout of the room, Daniel sanded the pale wooden floorboards to enhance the way light spreads across them from the large sash windows. The rich blue sofa provides a colourful focus, festooned with abstract cushions collected from the couple’s travels.
Finished with quirky ornaments – and tied together by a central rug that echoes the overall colour palette – the room is a stylish, sensory place for all-important family time.
Calming Influence
“Laura and I wanted to create a place of calm in the master bedroom,” explains Daniel. “Relaxing cups of tea sprang to mind, so we went for the tanned hues of Summer Pecan 3, teamed with Gentle Moon.” Statement pieces like the vintage filament bulbs add warmth, without disrupting the tranquil mood with harsh lighting.
The Green Room
Daniel recommends taking inspiration from your surroundings – such as a bookstore he visited, which has a railway station painted on the walls, featuring rich pops of green. The colour in that setting had a lively, playful quality, so Daniel injected a similar element of fun in the nursery, using Celtic Moor 2 as the block colour.
