The smart way to store paint
Keep paint fresher for longer with our expert tips on storing paint.
1) Paint keeps best in securely closed containers where the air can’t damage it. If you need to store tins that are half full or more, remove the lid and cover the top with plastic cling wrap. Secure the original lid on top of the cling film. On the lid, write the name of the manufacturer, the type of paint and the colour name or code. Also include the date you used it last.
2) Have only a little leftover paint? Tins less than half full should be poured into something smaller with a tight lid, like a jam jar. Remember to write details on the lid as above.
3) Paint is best stored at a constant temperature, away from direct sunlight. A dark shed or cupboard in the house are good places.
